Zyxel Nebula for businesses: a network managed from one panel, across multiple sites too
We design, deploy and maintain networks on the Zyxel Networks platform, with documented addressing and the licence cost stated upfront wherever the project requires one.
What the Zyxel platform is
Based on the vendor's materials (zyxel.com). We don't add features the vendor doesn't claim.
- The vendor states that its cloud platform lets you manage wireless, switching, security and cellular connectivity from a single console.
- The platform supports zero-touch provisioning from the cloud, so equipment can be brought online at many sites.
- The security layer includes protection against malware and unauthorised applications, with central management for small offices and remote sites.
- The basic cloud management plan, Nebula Base Pack, is free. It includes, among other things, zero-touch provisioning, a dashboard, monitoring, firmware updates and alerts, but it keeps log and statistics history for only one day.
- The vendor also targets its switch range at small and medium-sized businesses.
- The paid Plus Pack and Pro Pack plans are licensed per device and extend the history to 7 days and a year respectively. All devices in an organisation must have the same licence type.
- Firewall security services such as threat filtering, IPS and application control require a separate Gold Security Pack licence for each firewall.
What we do
- We design the network before any hardware is bought: zones, IP addressing and access point placement.
- We survey coverage on site, because the number of access points can't be worked out from floor area.
- We configure zones and rules defining which devices can communicate with each other.
- We set up remote access with named accounts and a second login factor.
- We monitor devices and keep their firmware up to date as part of managed support.
- We hand over network documentation and access credentials formally, as your property.
One caveat about the vendor's materials
The vendor says rolling out additional sites doesn't require an IT specialist. That's true for plugging in the hardware, which pulls its configuration from the cloud. It doesn't apply to network design, IP addressing, zoning and access rules. That part still needs engineering work, and we won't pretend otherwise, because skipping it is the fastest route to a network that works only until it needs troubleshooting.

Net prices. If the project requires a paid management plan or a firewall security licence, we list their cost separately in the quote, with the term and renewal cost.

What we won't claim
Vendor and reseller websites are full of promises. We won't make these:
- We won't state our partnership tier or partner programme number.
- We won't claim that every device from the vendor supports the cloud platform. We check model compatibility separately.
- We can't take responsibility for your internet connection's availability. That always rests with the provider.
- We won't repeat the vendor's marketing adjectives as a technical description.
- We won't state the number of access points without an on-site survey.
Questions about Zyxel Networks.
Zyxel or Ubiquiti UniFi?
Requirements decide, not the brand: the firewall features you need, the number of sites, the length of event history in the panel and the cost of the whole project including any licences. In Zyxel Nebula basic management is free, while firewall security services and longer history require licences. In UniFi, according to the vendor, management requires no licence. We are a Zyxel Networks Partner, and we deploy UniFi without partner status. We don't replace working infrastructure just because of the brand.
Do licences need renewing?
It depends on the project. Basic management on the Base Pack plan is free. What gets renewed are the paid Plus and Pro plans and the firewall security service licences. When Plus or Pro licences expire, after a 15-day grace period the organisation usually moves to the Base plan: the network keeps working, but the paid plan's features disappear. Without a valid Gold Security Pack licence, the firewall security services do not work. We show the renewal cost in the quote from the start.
We have three sites. Can they be managed from one place?
Yes, and that's the platform's main practical advantage. The vendor states that devices pull their configuration from the cloud, so bringing equipment online at a new site doesn't require sending an engineer. We still prepare the network design and access rules in advance, remotely.
